We received our Soda Stream a month or so ago. We decided we'd put it through the paces before we did our review; we have our results.
Soda Stream allows you to make your own sodas and sparkling water at home.
I was really skeptical at first. Homemade soda? Yeah, right.
Well, we took it out of the package and there was one bottle hooked up. We removed it. We went to put the CO2 cartridge in and there was another bottle. We removed it and put in the CO2 cartridge.
Cold water works best at carbonation, so we put in some refrigerated water. I kinda figured the Cola flavoring would taste like coca cola; it did. That was the first bottle.
We put in the second bottle and decided to try 1/2 the flavoring recommended. WOW! Sure enough, it tasted like Pepsi! (We're Pepsi folks.)
OK, great. But, how long would it last? We stuck our bottles in the fridge and drank out of them for over a week. They still held the carbonation! Cool! You do need to make sure the cap is tight. Common sense, I guess.
I've reviewed many, many gadgets. This is one that I totally enjoyed and was in awe over; not many can claim that.
What about cost? How long before you have to replace the flavoring or CO2? According to Soda Stream, ".....you'll enjoy seltzer and sparkling water in reusable 1-liter PET bottle for just $.20 per liter and flavored sodas for about $.25 per can, before any applicable shipping charges....The hermetic seal on the cap keeps your seltzer or soda from going flat as quickly as ordinary store-bought beverages. If you make sure to close the cap tightly, and keep the bottle in the refrigerator, your SodaStream soda should remain fizzy and fresh for over a week."
Now for the dietary.....
With a SodaStream home soda maker and over 30 delicious regular, diet and caffeine-free sodamix flavors to choose from, you'll enjoy freshly made, great tasting soda that fits your health and diet. Regular flavors contain no high-fructose corn syrup, and diet flavors are sweetened with Splenda® brand sweetener, not aspartame.
Calories Carbs Sugar Sodium Caffeine
Pepsi® 100 27g 27g 25mg 25mg
Coca-Cola® 100 27g 27g 35mg 23mg
SodaStream Cola 34 9g 9g 2mg 15mg
SodaStream products are kosher (OU) certified. SodaStream seltzer is kosher for passover. Also, please note that your home soda maker can be used on the Sabbath.
This was one of the best things that we've tested thus far. It does what it says and the savings are great! Besides, you can determine how much flavor and how much carbonation you like!
Overall, this would be something I'd buy. The ONLY negative think we found was when we were putting the bottle of water on the machine. You need to tilt it and be careful putting it on, else you'll spill it.
I think you'll enjoy Soda Stream. It does what it says, is easy, you can get the kids involved, it is Kosher, it is Green and it is cost effective.
Now, you can have your OWN Soda Stream! That's right, we are giving away one (Thanks to the folks at Soda Stream!).
